I wrote this backgrounder for a University of Maryland Global Campus course. In this scenario, I am an assistant account executive at Parabolic Communications, a strategic communications consulting agency with many clients in the government, nonprofit, and corporate economic sectors. My assignment was to create a news release for the agency's new client, the Commission on Public Relations Education (CPRE). CPRE is concerned about the state of writing in the communications field (and in the general US population) and wants to re-release the results of a 2009 study. My assignment was to revise the backgrounder to complement and contextualize the news release for members of the press.
